Bennington Awarded Grant for Capital Improvement Planning
August 19th, 2009
Sen. Jay Paul Gumm and Rep. John Carey this week announced that the town of Bennington has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant to fund Capital Improvement Planning.
Gumm said the $15,000 grant would be used to fund long-range plans regarding capital projects, equipment purchases and planning schedules for municipal financing.
“This grant will allow Bennington to consolidate projects to reduce costs and save money,” said Gumm, D-Durant. “It’s important for our communities to ensure efficient use of public funds, and capital improvement planning is an essential component of any modern municipal government. This is good news for a great town.”
Coordinated by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, the Oklahoma Capital Improvement Planning Initiative is an innovative economic and community development process implementing geographic information system technology. It builds local leadership capacity by organizing and presenting information in a simple and useful graphic format.
“Grants like these allow cities to provide improved service to taxpayers,” said Carey, D-Durant. “Bennington already has outstanding systems in place, but enhanced capital improvement planning will allow for even better management.”
