AT&T announces plans to expand high speed Internet service coverage in Durant
December 17th, 2009
AT&T Inc. announced on Wednesday at a formal luncheon that more than 1,600 additional homes and businesses in northwest, west and southwest Durant can now go online at super-fast speeds because of a recent expansion in the availability of AT&T high speed Internet service.
“It’s important because business is changing, said Chris Pierce, manager at Computer Services. Customers can choose from four AT&T high speed Internet speed tiers with downstream speeds up to 6.0 Mpbs. Customers can also simultaneously talk on the phone and surf the Internet at high speeds.
“Today, businesses need better, faster and more reliable connections to the Internet,” said State Rep. John Carey. “More and more, access to communications technology determines the success and well being of cities, businesses and local residents.”
“We will be bringing 3G to Durant in 2010,” said Bryan Gonterman, president with AT&T Oklahoma.
State Representative Carey and State Senator Jay Paul Gumm were recognized at the luncheon for their ongoing efforts in recent years to support public policy. Mayor Jerry Tomlinson presented Gumm and Carey with proclamations from the city for their leadership.
Gonterman announced that two remote terminals used to provide high speed Internet services are being named after Gumm and Carey to commemorate their efforts to improve advanced communications in Durant.
