Pastor Jacob Sheriff Serves as Senate Chaplain
March 13th, 2010
OKLAHOMA CITY – Pastor Jacob Sheriff served the Oklahoma Senate as its Chaplain of the Week Feb. 22-25. Sheriff, an associate pastor at Victory Life Church in Durant, was sponsored and hosted by Senator Jay Paul Gumm of Durant.
Pastor Sheriff opened each day’s session of the Senate with prayer. The final legislative day of the week, he shared a brief devotional with senators.
“Pastor Sheriff was a blessing to my colleagues and me,” said Senator Gumm. “I received many very positive comments from other senators about his words of inspiration.”
During Pastor Sheriff’s week, a longtime member of the Senate staff lost his battle with muscular dystrophy. The pastor was called upon, with very short notice, to provide words of comfort to senators and Senate staff.
“Pastor Sheriff’s eloquent words of hope, given with very little time for preparation, helped many of us during a very sad time,” Gumm related. “I am deeply grateful to him – for his service to the Senate and the fellowship we shared.”
