From KXII - World Autism Awareness Day

KXII Channel 12 in Sherman, Texas covered a local angle on World Autism Awareness Day. The Light-it-Up-Blue campaign was created to shed light on the disorder, which studies say, affects 1 in every 110 American children. 130 iconic landmarks across the US, including the Empire State building, shined blue lights Thursday night, to kick off the start of Autism Awareness month, this April. Here in Texoma, Oklahoma State Senator Jay Paul Gumm, has been very active in bringing public awareness to the growing number of Autism cases. This story aired on KXII's First News at 10 on Friday, April 2, 2010, which was World Autism Awareness Day.

From KOKH Fox 25 - Battle to End Grocery Tax Intensifies

The battle to end the sales tax on groceries intensified at the Oklahoma State Capitol on Monday, March 22, 2010. On that day, several mayors went to the Capitol to urge lawmakers to defeat the bill, which had already passed the Oklahoma Senate on a 33-11 vote. Senator Jay Paul Gumm, D-Durant, the author of the bill, addresses those concerns in this story aired on KOKH, Channel 25 - the Oklahoma City FOX affilate on its 9 p.m. newscast.

From KXII Channel 12 - Agreement Reached to Fund Senior Nutrition on July 1, 2010

As the Oklahoma Senate came to an agreement to pass the supplemental budget bills for the remainder of this year, the sticking point was funding for senior nutrition. A group of senators, including Senator Jay Paul Gumm of Durant, was instrumental in forcing an agreement that would ensure the senior nutrition program will be funded beginning in July. KXII Television covered the story and broadcast this package during its 6 p.m. newscast on March 4, 2010. Dara Downs reports; Anchor Charlie Haldeman introduces the story.
