KXII First News Report on Arbuckle-Simpson Aquifer Public Meeting in Ada
August 18th, 2009
In 2003, the Oklahoma Legislature passed Senate Bill 288 by Senator Jay Paul Gumm, D-Durant, and Rep. Paul Roan, D-Tishomingo. The measure halted large scale water sales out of the Arbuckle-Simpson Aquifer, an underground water supply feeding springs and streams on which thousands of Oklahomans depend. The bill also chartered a hydrological study of the aquifer to determine the impact of such water transfers. That study is complete, and as part of the project, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board conducted a public meeting in Ada on August 18, 2009 to discuss the findings. KXII covered the meeting, with KXII Ardmore Bureau Chief Shelby Levins reporting.
