From OETA - Senate Committee Debates CompSource Sale

February 17th, 2010

One of the most hotly debated issues at the Oklahoma State Capitol in 2010 is a proposal to sell CompSource, a quasi-state agency that provides workers' compensation insurance to thousands of Oklahoma businesses and government entities. The agency was created almost 80 years ago to help make workers' compensation insurance affordable. Supporters of the proposal say government should not be in this business; opponents - including Senator Jay Paul Gumm - warn that selling the agency will raise rates on businesses already struggling to keep afloat in a national recession. This story, which includes a portion of Senator Gumm's debate against the measure, was broadcast on OETA on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. That was the day, by the slimmest of margins, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved the bill.
